Homemade Grilled Chicken Flat Bread that’s almost exactly like the one you’d get from Olive Garden, only better. This chicken flatbread recipe is made with a homemade whole wheat crust, from scratch alfredo sauce, and any toppings you like, this dish is sure to be a hit!
I have a fun, easy summer dinner recipe to share with you all today, an incredibly delicious chicken flatbread. This dish was inspired by an appetizer I tried at Olive Garden, I made sure to analyze it as I ate it so that I could come home and recreate this homemade flatbread with alfredo and chicken!
Better Than Olive Garden Grilled Chicken Flatbread
I made some adjustments in an effort to make it a bit healthier, this flat bread recipe only uses half whole wheat flour. I also used a garlic white sauce instead of Alfredo. (It’s a really good sauce; we had it leftover from pasta the night before). The flat bread recipe is also a keeper! I made ours fairly thin, but the dish was filling enough; I don’t think I’ll change the thickness in the future.
Why You’ll Love This Chicken Flatbread Recipe
- The recipe comes together fast! The dough is so super easy to work with, the whole process took about 30 minutes. Meaning you can have a delicious dish in no time!
- This recipe makes plenty to share. One batch made enough for 2 dinners. We used 6, and then I have 6 waiting in the freezer for the next meal.
- The toppings you use can vary. I think just about anything from the garden right now would be a great addition. I was all out of zucchini but loved the artichoke hearts, fresh tomato, and sliced peppers on ours.
Chicken Flatbread Recipe Ingredients
For the Garlic White Sauce, you will need:
Butter– You will need 2 tablespoons of butter for the sauce to make it nice and rich.
Flour– Use 1 ½ tablespoons of flour to get the sauce to thicken perfectly.
Garlic– For great flavor, you will need 1 teaspoon of minced garlic.
Chicken broth– Adding in ¾ cup of chicken broth will help to make your sauce more flavorful.
Milk– Use ¾ cup of milk to give the sauce the perfect consistency.
Parmesan cheese– Add in ¼ cup of parmesan cheese for flavor and cheesy goodness.
Salt and pepper- You will need salt and pepper added per your taste preference.
For the Flatbread, you will need:
Flour– You will need 1 ⅓ cups each of all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour. This is the structural base of the flatbread.
Oil– Use ¼ cup of vegetable oil to make the dough moist so it holds together without feeling too dry.
Baking soda– You’ll want to use 1 teaspoon of baking soda to help the bread puff up nicely as it cooks.
Salt– Adding in 1 ¼ teaspoons of salt will enhance the flavors.
Buttermilk– For more moisture and richness, you’ll want to use ¾ cup of buttermilk. I used about ¾ TBSP lemon juice in regular milk instead of buttermilk.

How to Make Homemade Grilled Chicken Flat Bread
Garlic White Sauce
Begin my melting the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Then, whisk in the flour, and add chicken broth as the flour/butter mixture thickens. Continue adding the broth and whisking constantly to keep the sauce smooth.
Proceed to gradually add in the milk, continuing to whisk the mixture as you go.
After that, add in the minced garlic and a dash of salt and pepper. Heat the mixture just until boiling, until the sauce thickens.
{Note: I doubled this recipe and used half over fettuccine pasta with grilled chicken the first night. I made these flatbreads the next night, using the rest of the sauce and leftover grilled chicken. Just an idea!}
Flat Bread
In a large bowl, combine the flour, oil, baking soda, salt and buttermilk, stir well to combine. Once all ingredients are combined, knead the dough for 30 seconds on a well-floured surface.
Next, cut the dough into 12 segments and then cover the dough sections to prevent them from drying out.
Proceed to roll each segment of dough into balls and pat them into a flat circle. Then flatten the dough into 6-8″ circles using a rolling pin.
Place them onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake them in a preheated 350-degree oven for 5 minutes.
Assembly
Start with spreading a spoonful of the alfredo sauce on each flatbread, cover the entire surface leaving a little space from the edges so it doesn’t spill over. Then add the toppings of your choice, the chicken, then peppers, ect…and then bake again for another 7-8 minutes.
When I made these, I used the oven for everything, but you can cook the flatbread and pizzas on the stove if you’d like. I imagine you could even grill them to avoid heating up the house at all!
I made some with more kid-friendly toppings and some for my husband and me with the more adventurous toppings.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
