Regular cheese balls are often served as appetizers and tend to be more on the savory side for cracker dipping. This cheese ball is sweet and more like a dessert. A cheesecake cheese ball is made with butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla and chocolate chips. It tastes just like cheesecake, but functions like a dip – no baking required!

Cheesecake Cheese Ball Ingredients
Butter – A stick of butter is needed. Make sure to soften the butter to room temperature before mixing with the other ingredients. For best results, use real butter instead of margarine.
Cream cheese – Any type of cream cheese will work great. I usually use regular cream cheese, but low-fat or non-fat varieties work well too. I haven’t tried using a strawberry flavored cream cheese, but I think that would be delicious in this recipe.
Powdered sugar – A little bit of powdered sugar adds the perfect amount of sweetness to the cheese ball.
Vanilla – A little bit of vanilla extract adds the perfect flavor. The higher the quality of the vanilla, the better.
Mini chocolate chips – You will need about 1-2 cups of mini chocolate chips. Some of them will be mixed into the cheese ball mixture and the other half will be used to coat the outside of the ball.

How to Make Cheesecake Cheese Ball
In a large mixing bowl, or in the bowl of a stand mixer, mix together everything except for half of the chocolate chips. I usually put ½ of chocolate chips inside of the cheese ball, but you could always do more!
Refrigerate this mixture for about 4 hours or overnight.
Roll the mixture into a ball by shaping it with your hands.
Roll the ball into the other half of the chocolate chips. This is easily done by placing the chocolate chips on a plate and rolling the cheeseball around until coated.

How long are cheesecake dessert balls good for?
Cheesecake dessert balls will stay fresh for about 5–7 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Since they’re made with cream cheese, they should be kept chilled when not being served for the best texture and food safety. You can enjoy them right away, but letting them chill for a few hours—or overnight—helps the flavors come together even more!
What To Serve With This Cheesecake Dip?
While I haven’t ventured too far past graham crackers and strawberries as dippers, I know just about anything would taste incredible. Imagine Oreo cookies, flavored graham crackers, or even pretzels for a salty sweet combination. Other fruits like apple slices would also work great!
Do I Have to Use Mini Chocolate Chips?
Nope! While mini chocolate chips do work better at holding on to the outer cheese ball, you can use regular sized chocolate chips if you wanted. In fact, you could use can use any chocolate chip variety too. So white chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet or milk chocolate are all great options.
Is This Cheesecake Ball Gluten Free?
Yes. There is nothing in the recipe that asks for gluten of any kind. Definitely pay attention to cross contamination and look for gluten free foods to dip into the cream cheese ball.
