What are Apple Pie Fries?
Apple pie is just one of those desserts that has to be made every year when Fall decides to roll around. In fact, I don’t think Autumn would truly feel like itself without the addition of Apple pie.
I love the way the cinnamon and sugar plays with the apples. Don’t even get me started on that flaky crust!! Mmmm!
Ever since having kids though, I’ve realized that there is a much better, kid-friendly, way of getting my must-have-apple-pie-in-the-Fall fix. ????
How to Make Apple Pie Fries
Making Apple Pie Fries really could not be any easier!!
First, take some unsweetened apple sauce and combine it with some cinnamon and sugar.
I used some homemade apple sauce I had made in my Instant Pot!
If you use sweetened applesauce, I would just add cinnamon instead of both cinnamon and sugar.
Now, for the pie crust. This time I used a pre-made refrigerated pie crust. Down the baking isle you can find a boxed pie crust mix that would work really well, too!
Spread a thin layer of the apple sauce onto half of the pie crust.
When spreading the apple sauce, make sure to leave the edge of the pie crust alone, that way when the pie crust is folded in half you’ll be able to pinch and seal the crust shut.
Fold the pie crust in half, pinch the edge to seal the pie crust. This is just to make the next step less messy. ????
Using a pizza cutter, cut the apple sauce filled pie crust into strips. Don’t worry about the strips staying sealed.
Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet. Once the oil is hot, drop the Apple Pie Fries into the oil.
Cook for 1-2 minutes before flipping the fries to the other side. When they are golden brown, remove the fries and place them on a paper towel covered plate. The paper towel will help soak up excess oil.
Repeat with the remaining fries until all have been fried.
Shake the fries in a baggie of cinnamon and sugar. Serve warm!

Interesting. Legoland has apple fries where they fry slices of Granny Smith apples in a batter and then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and dip in whipped cream. They are amazing! I would think these would be somewhat similar.

I tried the apple fries and I had one big mess – all the applesauce came out of the crust once you cut into strips.
Jessica says
It sounds like you added too much applesauce Denise. Did you measure out the 1/3 cup as instructed?
